After 27 years in the USA one expat says that his top 10 food items that he misses from England are as follows:

1) Branston pickle
2) Cheshire Cheese
3) Steak & Kidney Pie
4) British Lamb
5) Mushy peas
6) Curry and chips
7) Custard
8) Torpedo sausage and chips
9) Pickled onions
10) Trifle

Thankfully Brits in Florida can access most of these items via their local Wal-Mart of Publix (in the international food section.. you may have to visit one which is close to Disney) or they can get a wider array of British Goods from Churchill’s on US 192 which we blogged about before we also made it known about the change in production of HP sauce…be sure to check out our Blog post about that.

This day is one not to be missed, with admission to the park only $4 for a car with up to 8 passengers its a very cheap day out. The event is held on Lake Louisa’s beautiful white sandy beach. It is held Saturday May 19th 2007. 9.30am – 2.30pm.

The even is designed to make people aware of Central Florida’s natural and cultural heritage. Exhibitors from all over Central Florida will provide information, demonstrations and activities about environmental issues, outdoor recreation etc. There will also be activities for the kids too.

This clip, which I found out about from the ‘Across the Pond Blog‘ on the Orlando Sentinel parodies two women in their late 50′s from Bideford in North Devon retiring in Florida and the things they find funny about it.

This comedy sketch is a fine example of dry British humour…enjoy it!

This sketch is especially funny for me, the blogmaster, as I spent 8
years living in Devon before moving to Florida…the characters they
portray are a very stereotypical Devonian

– the accents are spot on and the remind me of neighbours I had! Jennifer Saunders in fact lives not far from Bideford, in Devon. I knew the guy who sold her her house – small town communities see!

We hope you enjoy. Remember life isn’t all work and no play!

Zagat Walt Disney World Insiders Guide was published on April 25th and is the latest amongst the crowd of Disney guidebooks.

It may be the first to base ratings on the opinions of thousands of frequent customers. Zagat polled customers about everything, hotels, rides, restaurants etc!
\
The survey polled 4,841 people by computer between Nov. 16th and Dec 3rd 2006. The average person surveyed had been to Disney World 36 times and 58% had annual or season passes.

Even though Disney World did not participate it is believed officials aren’t displeased.

Here are more findings:

Favorite Parks:
Magic Kingdom: 48%
Epcot: 36%
MGM Studios: 9%
Favorite Costumed Character:
Mickey Mouse: 37%
Goofy: 11%
Donald Duck: 6%

Most Popular Attractions:
Soarin’ (Epcot)
Rock and Roller Coaster (MGM)
Tower of Terror (MGM)

However Expedition Everest at Disneys Animal Kingdom (See out previous blog post with photo’s) received the highest average rating by adults and the Wishes Spectacular fireworks show at Magic Kingdom got the highest from the Kids.
I in fact went to Epcot last weekend and found it amazing, the test track would be one of my favorites. Soarin’ is great, but only lasts 5 minutes, hardly worth the 70 minute wait (this is in the off season) however it is spectacular.

Epcot is also known for is ’11 countries’ which you can visit, these include, Morocco, America (which happened to be the biggest..of course!), Norway, Germany.. etc.. but of course GREAT BRITAIN!

The Great Britain area was very cute, it combined typical town homes you would find in London with the kind of cute chocolate box Cotsworlds town. (if you have been to Stow-on-the Wold you will know what I mean.. or even Winchester in Hampshire!) There are a couple of pubs, a fish and chip shop and a few quaint country stores. Very authentic.

All in all Disney represents as always a fun day out!

Visitors to Universal Studios will see a change to their lineup, the once classic ride "Back to the Future" was closed at the end of 2006 in California and in March in Florida, to make way for a new ride which has now been announced…

The Simpsons have come to Orlando! Well.. they will do it is estimated that a re-fit of the BTTF ride to make it in to the Simpsons will cost around $30 million.

There is rumoured to even be costumed characters in the parks! Interestingly there is even more rumours about J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter being brought to Universal in the near future.. however only time will tell.

The 2007 conference for Realty World, the international Real Estate franchise company was held April 22-24th at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The convention talked about many real estate topics including the current market and new technologies which are making Real Estate more accessible to the potential buyer.

British Home Sale Inc.,

The Real Estate Sales division of the British Homes Group picked up a gold award for highest average number of closed units per agent in 2006. This shows that we are the trusted company for Florida villa sales.

We all know that when the state of Florida comes to mind one of the first thoughts if Disney, SeaWorld and Universal Studios amongst others. Two Words: THEME PARKS.

However there is more to Florida, from the horse ranching country in the North, The Ocala National Forest, the rolling hills of Clermont and lakes of Lake and Polk County, the bright lights of Jacksonville and Miami, and the fishing city’s of Port Charlotte to the everglades and Keys in the south.

Florida is so much more that it first seems. Disney does own 27,000 acres of Central Florida, but the state is over 65,000 square miles! The margest cultural and metro area in the state is cosmopolitan Miami, the largest city by land area in the USA is located in Florida, Jacksonville spreading over 885 square miles. Also the St. John’s river that runs through Jacksonville is one of few rivers in the world that flows south to north. Lets not forget the Kennedy Space Center on the east coast.

Do you have a good photo of you and your family at SeaWorld? The they want to hear from you.

Busch Entertainment Corp, the parent company of SeaWorld, has created a enw website to give an interactive experience for visitors. It estimates that close to 1 billion photo’s have been taken in the park. – The Orlando Sentinel jokes "That doesnt include the thousands ruined in Shamu’s splash zone, having sat in the splash zone myself, which was immense fun, I cant testify to that.

For a limited time every family who submits a photo that is selected for the new site will receive free admission! For more info see the website http://www.seaworld.com/share

This store has a huge variety of British Food, Sundries and Sweets. It has Easter Eggs at Easter and has great service if stopping by for a pot of tea. The store is run by Brits who live in Orlando. The store is a great place to meet expats who are shopping for what you are looking for! The range of Chocolate is amazing – Brit’s often comment about the taste of American chocolate so no need to try it, come here and get some British Cadbury’s etc.

There are a good range of tea bags and curry powders alongside some medical supplies – you know the stuff you would normally get in Boots or Superdrug which you cannot find here…Bite creams etc.

Even if you are house hunting over here it is great to stop off and have a pot of tea and pick up something to take home to cook for dinner. Service is second to none. You will find th store a pleasant surprise in a country which prides itself in Bigger is Better, here you will find the kind of corner shop mentality.

The store is near Orange Lake on US 192 just of US Hwy 27 as you travel east towards Disney – near the Domino’s Pizza and Pizza Hut.
