After phenomenal success in the gorgeous planned town of Celebration, Sherlocks – the British owned tea room, wine seller and purveyor of british goods is opening in more locations in Central Florida!

A branch in Cagan’s Crossings off highway 27 just north of US 192 is now open with another branch planned to open in Lake Buena Vista soon.

All of this exciting activity is great news for British Expats and tourists alike who love the atmosphere and curios sold at Sherlocks – it is a slice of British charm in the sunshine state!

The ambiance of the new location, as at the original Celebration location is one of relaxation and is achieved by soft lighting and well chosen furnishings and objet d’art.

When on the look out for afternoon tea visit Sherlocks at Celebration and Cagan Crossing to satisfy the urge!

After 27 years in the USA one expat says that his top 10 food items that he misses from England are as follows:

1) Branston pickle
2) Cheshire Cheese
3) Steak & Kidney Pie
4) British Lamb
5) Mushy peas
6) Curry and chips
7) Custard
8) Torpedo sausage and chips
9) Pickled onions
10) Trifle

Thankfully Brits in Florida can access most of these items via their local Wal-Mart of Publix (in the international food section.. you may have to visit one which is close to Disney) or they can get a wider array of British Goods from Churchill’s on US 192 which we blogged about before we also made it known about the change in production of HP sauce…be sure to check out our Blog post about that.

This programme has been around now since around 2001. It focuses on the Lyne family from Bishop Stortford in Hertforshire. Rob and Carol Lyne and their daughter Joanna made the move from rainy Britain to the sunny Florida Keys.

They made the move on an L-1 Business Visa and purchased a run down Motel on Conch Key with the plan on restoring it all in all for about $1.2million. The Bay View Inn, they spend the next few years renovating it with occasional help from Alan Ravenscroft who, when not lending a hand is gallivanting around Florida showing what other Brits around the state have bought and showing potential emigrant’s and visitors what else Florida has to offer.

After a couple of bad seasons and sinking all they had into the motel they actually decided to try to sell the motel or find business partners. The motel has its own dock and view out to the ocean and the Lyne’s introduced a convenience store! UKTV on Sky Television in the UK re-run the show quite often, it ran for many episodes.

The Lynes love the keys and have enjoyed the experience so much. They definitely felt it was a better place for their daughter to grow up. The Florida Keys are recognised as having some of the best views of a sunset in the world…

This website has been around for sometime, but it is a great little resource as an insight into the ways of British Expats in the Sunshine State.
