With the weather in the UK turning to winter it is no wonder Brits accross the nation are looking to sunnier climates to take away the chill.

However, a leading publication and a leading property website have reported that a growing number are looking to buy holiday homes in their favourite holiday spots!

Spain is popular with short haul but Florida really is top when looking for a long haul holiday home.

HiFx the Currency exchange experts have reported that 29 million Brits would like to buy a property abroad with 11 million that could actually own one in the coming 5 years.

Reasons for owning are more concerned with a lifestyle choice rather than making money from the property – in 1995 the average price of a property purchased abroad was 65% compared to UK prices, by 2005 just ten years later this had shrunk to 37%.

HIFX also found that 62% of people looking to buy abroad are looking to escape the UK weather whilst 50% are looking to buy to escape the long working hours, high taxes and stressful busy life in the UK, whilst 25% are considering making their move permenant!

Country Life says that 31% of Brits are looking to buy a holiday home with a quarter doing so to avoid the stresses of going on holiday.

They say that 6 in 10 plan to live abroad permenantly and a fifth are looking at leaving for retirement – 17% plan to leave the UK within 5 years.

Its Official, one tenth of the UK population live abroad permanently. Even though we have previously reported this there are some interesting new statistics to digest. For example, British Expats are the third largest group of expats in the world after India and China and a British Citizen leaves the UK every 3 minutes!

"Most cited better quality of life, education and climate as their main reasons for leaving. An estimated 1m more people are expected to leave in the next five years and more than 3m pensioners are predicted to emigrate by 2050."

What is also interesting is that British Expats are more spread out than any other nation who has large numbers of citizens living abroad. With more than 10,000 brits living in 41 countries around the world and another 71 countries with more than 1000 Brits!

The report, commissioned by th institute for public Policy Research also found that amongst the working class Britons who emigrated to Spain only one in four spoke Spanish, where as in the middle class who emigrated to Italy one in three spoke Italian.

According to Danny Sriskandarajah the associate director of the IPPR Brits cite a better quality of life over feeling that the country has "gone to the dogs"

Florida is high on the list of destinations for Brits wanting to emigrate to, however strict immigration laws do make it difficult with often waits of many years in some cases, many therefore prefer to own a holiday home here which they can rent out when they aren’t using it.

Studies indicated that 5.5million British Born live and work abroad. (One in 10 of the UK’s Population) with 800,000 resident Brits owning foreign property more are set to make the move, with Florida high on the list of destinations. Year round sunshine, a lower cost of living and a better quality of life are all reasons that Brits want to make the Sunshine State home. An estimated 400,000 already call it home, particularly in the Orlando area, while the total figure for Brits in the USA stand at 678,000.

The usage of the Florida MLS System helps people who are thinking of making the move or simply looking for a holiday home to find their perfect home in the sun.
