Much has been heard about Disney’s MGM studios in the press at the moment, from a name chage from January 2008 to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to a new Jedi Training Stage at the Star Wars ride!

If you are put off by this change, don’t be, the park is full of great family fun! Whether it is walking through a 1950′s theme hollywood street, riding the scary elevator on the Tower of Terror – a whopping 199 feet high, 13 stories as well as a frightening introductory video!! – Not for those who are afraid of heights!!

Of course there are more sedate rides, Muppet’s 3D is a great show – young or old, it is sure to please! Star Tours (the Star Wars ride) is a blast!! You play the role of innocent public transport traveller on route to the forest moon endor when..suddenly…you take part in the Death Star Run like the movies!!

There is also the Back lot tour, where you can see how Special Effects such as the ones used in the movie Pearl Harbor are used – some will get wet!! As well as taking a ride through hollywood history by way of used props – however the real fun is the mock up canyon..where you will see a fake storm cause a electricity short out that sets fire to a tanker and oil drilling facility as well as a flash flood and earthquake!!!!!! – Definately a great ride!

There are great restaurants and shops too with the New York Street and San Francisico Streets great photo opportunity’s – even the odd chance to meet Lightning McQueen & Mater from the Disney Pixar smash hit Cars!

So, there you have it, a fun day out for the family in a working movie studio!

The name change has been expected but it is not quite what many thought….many thought that they would change the name to Disney-Pixar Studio’s in light of Disneys purchase of Pixar or Disney-ABC studios because of its ownership of the tv channel.

The new name is to be Disney-Hollywood Studios which is in step with the parks future development plans as well as the general theme of the park.

Disney and MGM had been locked in a legal battle over the usage of the MGM name but Disney say this has no bearing on the decision.
