Orlando: The City Beautiful or is it Coral Gables, Miami: The City Beautiful?

Orlando is the City Beautiful right? Or is it Coral Gables? Not sure? Well neither are they!

Disagreement began when Coral Gables tried to federally trademark the slogan which would mean that Orlando would have to cease using the phrase.

Coral Gables argues that is has its gorgeous location nestled amongst a leafy setting whilst moments from the hustle and bustle of Miami proper whilst Orlando boasts that its famous Lake Eola park earns it the right to continue using the phrase.

Whilst both cities have been using the phrase for many years they both accepted the status quo which is what Orlando officials want to keep so that any city can use the slogan.

New York Times Travel Targets Orlando

Asides from Disney and the parks the area has so much more! The New York Times describes it as America’s most mis-understood city. Disney isn’t even in the city limits! This commercialization bears no relation to the brick lined streets, mossy parks and natural lake fronts that make up historic downtown – along with Church Street Station. This nestles alongside Little Vietnam and the big financial district of banks and investment companies which make up the skyline of skyscrapers.

Orlando has a vibrant gay scene as well as comedy clubs and general nightlife. It is the historic hub of the Florida Citrus industry.There are museums, parks and tea rooms which make up the cultural diversity of the city. Go ahead, check it out!
